What the domain check tests

The check only reads public DNS records. Whether all your services really sign correctly only the DMARC reports can show – Mailsecurity24 analyses them for you.

Frequently asked questions about the domain check

What does the free domain check test?

It reads the public DNS records of your domain: DMARC, SPF, DKIM, the mail servers (MX), MTA-STS, TLS reporting, BIMI and the name servers. The result is a score from 0 to 100 – with notes on what is missing and what to do.

Do you store my domain?

No. The result is cached only briefly so repeated checks are fast, and expires after ten minutes. We do not store your IP address in plain text.

Why is my DKIM key not found?

DKIM keys are published under a freely chosen name, the selector. The check tries the common selectors of large providers. If your mail server uses its own name, the check cannot guess it – in the portal, Mailsecurity24 detects the selector automatically from your DMARC reports.

Is a good score enough?

The check shows whether your records exist and are valid. Whether all your services – such as newsletters, shop or ticket system – really sign correctly only shows in the daily DMARC reports from mailbox providers. That is exactly what Mailsecurity24 analyses for you.

What does p=reject mean?

With this DMARC policy, receivers reject forged emails sent in your name. Only set it once all legitimate senders are properly authenticated – otherwise genuine messages will be rejected too.
