Guide · BIMI
With BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification), mailbox providers show your brand logo next to your emails. This builds trust with your recipients and makes forgeries easier to spot. BIMI does, however, require an enforced DMARC policy – and Mailsecurity24 guides you along exactly that path.
BIMI builds on DMARC. Only when your domain consistently rejects or quarantines forged emails will providers show your logo. You also need a logo in the right format and a BIMI record in DNS – and for Gmail and Apple Mail a mark certificate as well.
Good to know: A VMC usually requires a registered trademark. A CMC is possible without a trademark if the logo has already been in public use for some time.
Analyse your DMARC reports, get all your own senders to pass SPF and DKIM, and switch to p=quarantine or p=reject. The simulation in Mailsecurity24 shows beforehand who would be affected.
Create your logo as a square SVG in Tiny PS format – with a title element, without scripts or external references – and place it at an HTTPS address.
Publish a TXT record at default._bimi.your-company.com, for example v=BIMI1; l=https://your-company.com/logo.svg;. With a certificate, add a= with its address.
Even with a correct record, the logo does not appear immediately or everywhere. The most common reasons:
Good to know: Upper and lower case matter. If the record says logo.svg but the file is called Logo.svg, the provider will not find it.
Free domain check
In seconds we check DMARC, SPF, DKIM, MX, MTA-STS, TLS reporting and BIMI for your domain – free and without signing up.
For Gmail and Apple Mail, yes – a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) or a Common Mark Certificate (CMC). Other providers such as Yahoo partly show logos without a certificate.
Among others Gmail, Apple Mail, Yahoo and AOL. Each provider sets its own requirements and decides itself when to show a logo.
Usually a few days after publishing the record. Providers cache records and logos and also take your sending behaviour into account.
The BIMI record itself is free. Costs arise for a mark certificate, which you buy from a certificate authority – without a certificate, BIMI only works with some providers.
